Prez condoles death of ex-Governor Rameshwar Thakur

President Pranab Mukherjee today expressed grief over the demise of former Governor and Congress leader Rameshwar Thakur.
In a condolence message to his son, Sushil Thakur, the President said he was deeply saddened to learn about the death of the veteran leader yesterday.
"Shri Rameshwar Thakur was a veteran Congress leader and an able administrator who contributed to the nation's growth and welfare.
"He served the nation with distinction as a member of the Union council of ministers and Governor of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. The nation will always remember him for his valuable services and pursuit of excellence in public life," Mukherjee said.
The President also described Thakur as a close friend.
"In his death, I have lost a close friend whose memories I shall forever cherish. I pray to the almighty to give your family and you the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and convey the same to all other members of your family," he said.
Thakur, who was also a freedom fighter, passed away in Delhi yesterday.
