In a condolence message to the Former Attorney General's wife Nafisa Vahanvati, the President said he was extremely saddened upon the passing away of the eminent jurist.
"In his death, we have lost a highly-respected and an eminent personality whose contributions to the field of law shall always be remembered," he said.
Mukherjee said Vahanvati rendered distinguished services as the Attorney General and the Solicitor General of India and, after he began his practice in Mumbai, ably handled various matters involving important constitutional issues.
