Prez condoles passing away of Naresh Chandra

President Pranab Mukherjee today condoled the death of former Cabinet Secretary and Indian ambassador to the US Naresh Chandra.
"I am sad to learn about the demise of Naresh Chandra. As an outstanding IAS officer, Chandra served the nation in various capacities including Cabinet Secretary, Government of India, Governor of Gujarat and Ambassador of India to the United States of America," the president said.
In recognition of his services, Chandra was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2007.
"His valuable services to the nation in various capacities will always be remembered. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and convey the same to the members of your family. May you all have the strength to bear this irreparable loss with courage and fortitude," the president said in a message to Chandra's niece Vatsala Kumar.
Chandra served as cabinet secretary from 1990 to 1992 and was the Indian ambassador to the US from 1996 to 2001.
He passed away on Sunday at a hospital in Goa.
