"The president will address members of the legislative assembly at the function to mark the occasion on January 8," Uttar Pradesh IG (Law and order) B P Singh said here.
A three-day programme has been planned for the occasion beginning from January 6 during which a special sitting of the House will be held to commemorate the day, Singh said.
The state legislature was constituted on January 8, 1887 under the Indian Council Act of 1861.
The programme would include an exhibition depicting rich history of the House besides other cultural programmes. A memento is being specially designed and a commemorative stamp and coin would also be released on this occasion.
Meanwhile, the chief secretary of the state, Javed Usmani today held a meeting to oversee preparations for the official visit of the President to Allahabad and Varanasi on December 25.
The President is scheduled to attend the convocation of Motilal Nehru NIT, Allahabad and Benaras Hindu University, on December 25.
