Production of coconut in Tamil Nadu and Kerala was above normal whereas it was low in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh due to water scarcity. Arrivals of copra from other states were lower compared to last year and arrivals from Mysore may commence from June onwards, it said.
Demand from North India would also stabilise the prices of coconut in near future.
Tamil Nadu stands first in production, contributing about 50 per cent to the total coconut production of the country, followed by Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
Coimbatore stands first among coconut producing districts in Tamil Nadu with a production of 8,598 lakh nuts followed by Tirupur, Thanjavur, Dindigul and Kanyakumari.
