A 45-year-old priest has been booked for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl behind a temple premises in northwest Delhi's Bhalswa Dairy area, police said today.
The incident came to light yesterday when the five-year-old girl complained of pain in her abdomen and later told her mother that when they had gone to the temple two days ago, the priest, Rajesh Shukla, had sexually assaulted her, police said.
The police were informed and the minor was counselled. She further told investigators that the priest had lured her to a secluded spot behind the temple premises and allegedly committed the crime, a senior official said.
"A case was registered on the basis of the girl's complaint and the accused was arrested under relevant sections of IPC and POCSO Act," DCP, Northwest Delhi, Vijay Singh, said.
Shukla, a native of a village in Uttar Pradesh, stays here with other priests in the temple premises. He was produced before a court which sent him to 14 days judicial custody, police said.
