In an attempt to resolve the controversy over her shifting for criticising the Education Minister, Principal of a government school here today met Kerala Chief Minister Ommen Chandy and appealed him to cancel her transfer orders.
K K Urmila Devi, shunted from the Cotton Hill High School after incurring the wrath of Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb for resenting his late arrival for a campus function, also expressed regret if her remarks had hurt anyone.
Responding to the development, Rabb told reporters that a decision on the Principal's plea would be taken after consulting the Chief Minister.
Relenting from his earlier position, the Minister said "the situation has changed with the Principal making an appeal to the Chief Minister and we will take a decision on the matter."
After meeting Chandy, Urmila said the Chief Minister had assured her that her request would be looked into.
"I made an appeal to the Chief Minister. He told me he would look into it," she told reporters alongwith CPI(M) MLA V Sivakutty, who accompanied her.
The transfer of the principal, who belongs to a Scheduled Caste community, had rocked the state assembly for the last three days with the CPI-M LDF Opposition stalling the procedures over it.
The LDF had dubbed the action against the Principal as "vindictive and denial of natural justice" as she was transferred without waiting for the explanation on the memo served on her by the Education Department.
Urmila was transferred to another school in the district after she allegedly resented late arrival of Rabb for a campus function on June 16.
The Principal had earlier also said she had not insulted the Education Minister but if her words hurt anybody she regreted for it.
