The principal of a local post-graduate college was allegedly assaulted by a former students' union leader and others here, police said today.
According to the FIR lodged by Harihar Prasad Singh, principal of PG College in Ghazipur, former president of the union Amarjit Yadav and 20 of his supporters assaulted him yesterday, they said.
Yadav and others had gone to Singh to seek permission for meeting the students appearing in the entrance examination and to campaign for the upcoming union elections.
The group got infuriated when they were denied the permission, following which they allegedly roughed up the principal, police said, adding investigation in this connection is underway.
Meanwhile, the teachers' union has warned of going on strike if the culprits are not arrested at the earliest, they said.
