Sanjib Singh was booked under section 354 (assault to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) after the complaint of the two girls, said Inspector-in-charge of town Police Station Ramesh Bisoi.
In their complaints, both the girls have alleged that the principal was misbehaving with them with an evil intention and making inappropriate advances with them, he said.
The accused tried to trap the girls by promising them good marks in exams and wanted to have physical relation with them, police said quoting the complaint lodged by the girls.
Police investigated the matter and took the principal of the school into custody.
The District Administration through its Child Protection Cell has also made an inquiry into the allegation made by the girl students of the public school.
The officer concerned recorded the statements of the two girls, police said.
