A prisoner today escaped from a government hospital in Chapra in Saran district of Bihar after dodging police personnel guarding him.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sushil Kumar said prisoner Om Prakash Singh, charged in cases of murder, attempt to murder, and Arms Act had been undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital for the last three months.
"Singh today complained of chest pain to the guards deputed there and rushed towards the OPD and escaped on a waiting motorcycle. We have launched a manhunt to nab him again. The person who drove the bike was later found and arrested.
The motorcyclist has been identified as one Mukesh and is being interrogated to know the whereabouts of the absconder.
Hospital's Deputy Superintendent Dr Ramesh Mishra said Singh had been shifted here from Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna on June 3 this year, and was undergoing treatment for various ailments.
"Five police personnel were deputed to guard him, but two were absent today. I guess he took advantage of the situation and managed to flee," Mishra said.
