Prisoner kills inmate in Yerawada jail

A 45-year-old prisoner died after he was allegedly hit on the head with a stone by a fellow inmate at the Yerawada central jail here this morning, authorities said.
The deceased, identified as Sukhdev Mehakarkar, was serving a three and a half years of the jail term in a kidnapping case, they said.
According to the jail authorities, the accused, Dinesh Dabade, who was convicted in a murder case, has been arrested under the IPC section of 302 (murder) by Yerawada police. He had been serving a life sentence in the previous murder case.
"The incident took place this morning near a barrack. Dabade allegedly hit Mehakarkar with a stone following a quarrel over a petty issue, in which he died on the spot," a senior jail official said.

Mehakarkar and Dabade were given a duty in the kitchen, he added.
