A prisoner lodged at the central jail here allegedly manhandled a sepoy after the latter complained against him, police said today.
The accused, Rajesh Malik, had allegedly abused jail sepoys Sanjay Gavand and Subedhar Kadam on October 6, Thane Nagar assistant police inspector Rajendra Landge said.
After Gavand complained about him to senior officers, Malik got annoyed and on October 7, he manhandled the sepoy, tore his uniform and tried to throttle him, he said.
The prisoner has been charged under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the IPC in connection with the offence, he added.
