The investigations with regard to the alleged tampering began following a complaint from IIM-K, police said.
Kummamangalam Police recently registered a case under sect 65 (tampering of computer source documents) IT Act, sect 406 (breach of trust) and sect 420 (cheating) and 120 B (conspiracy) of IPC.
Investigators seized the hard disc of the computer from IIM-K which was being used by the representative of Web Weavers, a lucknow-based company with its headquarters in the US. The disc has been sent to the forensic science laboratory at Thiruvananthapuram, Kummamangalam Circle Inspector Prakashan Padanyil told PTI.
The institute had entrusted Prometric, a US-based multi-national company, with the conduct and evaluation of the examination. The results were handed over to Web weavers, which manages CAT website www.Catiim.In.
Police said the marks of at least 80 students, who took the CAT, are suspected to have been tampered with or altered which led to increased scores.
