The police have launched a probe into the complaint by a student of a medical college and hospital after registering a sexual harassment case against three teachers.
A police team went to the hostel of the complainant, a second year post-graduate student, and recorded her statement under section 161 of CrPC, city DCP Akhileswar Singh said today.
The student of the SCB Medical College and Hospital, however, refused to undergo a medical examination as was suggested by the investigating police team during its visit to the hostel yesterday, police said.
On the basis of the complaint filed on Monday by the student, who belongs to Jharkhand, police booked a senior resident doctor, an associate professor and the head of the department of the dental wing of the college under various sections of the IPC including 354 (assaulting a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 294 (obscene acts) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).
The complainant had alleged that the resident doctor and the associate professor had been harassing her for the past several days by making sexual advances. When she brought the matter to the notice of the head of the department, he too misbehaved.
The dental wing head Indu Bhusan Kar countered the allegations made by the PG student and said the complainant was playing the victim card after she was reprimanded for wilfully skipping the assigned duty hours.
"There is not even an iota of truth in the allegations made by the student," Kar said.
