The Chhattisgarh Police has ordered a probe into a clip of a "wireless message", circulating on social media, in which a man is purportedly heard telling another to kill journalists reporting on Naxalites, a senior officer said today.
Special Director General of Police (Anti-Naxal Operations) D M Awasthi said that he had heard the audio clip.
In the clip, being circulated on WhatsApp, a man is heard instructing another to remain alert and kill journalists reporting on Naxalites. The second man is heard acknowledging the instructions, saying "Ok, sir".
The Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) has been asked to probe the matter to verify the authenticity of the clip, Awasthi said, adding that action would be taken if anyone was found guilty.
Some senior police officers claimed that a similar audio surfaced in 2004-05, but they were not certain whether this clip was a part of that.
Senior journalists and the opposition Congress demanded a probe into the matter.
