Probe report on ADSP slapping woman protester submitted

The report of an inquiry into the recent slapping of a woman by a police official and lathicharge during an anti-liquor protest in neighbouring Tirupur District was submitted today.
The report by District Revenue Officer S Prasanna Ramasamy, who held the inquiry into the April 11 incident at Shamalapuram that triggered an outrage, was presented to District Collector S Jayanthi, officials said.
It would be forwarded to the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, they said.
Additional Deputy Superintendent of Police Pandiarajan was caught on camera slapping the woman protester during the agitation for closure of a state-owned liquor outlet, sparking outrage and condemnation.
The National Human Rights Commission has directed the government and the police to hold inquiries.
Coimbatore Rural Superintendent of Police Ramya Bharati is conducting the police inquiry into the incident.
Amid the outrage over the police action, the state government announced the closure of the liquor outlet.
