Probe reports of troop movement towards Delhi: Gen Kapoor

Former Army chief Gen Deepak Kapoor today demanded a "proper investigation" into reports about movement of troops towards Delhi around the time his successor Gen V K Singh had approached the Supreme Court over his age issue.
He said the "charges" are serious and attack the reputation and integrity of the Army.
"I think there should be proper investigations into the movement of troops. All the units are given an annual training programme. It should be investigated whether these units moved as per that or they were given separate orders to do so around that time," Gen Kapoor told PTI here.

"These are serious charges and they are attacking the reputation and integrity of the Army. They should be investigated properly to clear the issue once and for all," he said.
Gen Kapoor was commenting on a fresh controversy that erupted over the movement of two army units near Delhi in 2012 with the then DGMO Lt Gen AK Choudhary saying there may have been "distrust" between the Army and government on the issue, a view rejected on Friday by the National Security Advisor (NSA).
"There was misconception or there was perceptional difference or there may be distrust," Choudhary said today after he was quoted in an interview saying that the then defence secretary Shashi Kant Sharma had asked him to send the troops back as the government at the highest level was "worried" over this.

When asked about this, NSA Shivshankar Menon said there was no distrust between the Army and government.
