------------- Jammu: Work of the prestigious Rs 69.70 crore Tawi barrage project is in full swing and almost 95 per cent civil and mechanical works have so far been completed. "The work on prestigious Tawi barrage project also projected as part of beautification project for the winter capital, is in full swing and almost 95 per cent civil and mechanical works have been completed so far," JK minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma said after visiting to the project site today. The Tawi Barrage project, which would create an artificial lake downstream of the Tawi river, was started in July 2010 and is likely to be completed within the stipulated time of two years. Out of total project cost, an amount of Rs 37.32 crore stands incurred till date, he said. AMENDMENTS ------------ Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a committee to recommend amendments to make the existing laws dealing with the offences against women more stringent. The committee was constituted by the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah, while chairing a high level meeting here today, an official spokesman said. The committee headed by Advocate General with Secretary Law, Director Prosecution and Special Secretary Law as its members will submit its report within a week time. PANCHAYAT ------------- Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Ali Mohammad Sagar today said the government constituted Committee's recommendations are being actively considered for examining the amendments proposed by different quarters in the Panchayati Raj Act. He said the government believes in complete devolution of the powers to the grassroots level and ensure people's participation in day to day governance.
