Project monitoring group to be functional in Bengal post polls

The state-level project monitoring group of West Bengal will start functioning immediately after the general elections.
Anil Swarup, chairman, project monitoring group (PMG), said this during an interactive session with chamber members, according to a CII statement here today.
Swarup met state chief secretary Sanjay Mitra and said the discussions with him was encouraging and fruitful, the statement said.
West Bengal is among 14 states in the country to have its own project monitoring group to fast-track stalled projects valued at less than Rs 1,000 crore.
The state-level project monitoring group will be on the lines of that of the Centre, it said.
Swarup also asked the CII to team up with the state government to help fast-track stalled projects, the statement said.

"After all our collective aim is to remove bottlenecks and get the stalled projects get off the ground. As of now, more than 40 per cent big projects are awaiting clearances from the forest, environment and mining ministries," Swarup said.
"It is an effective system to remove bottlenecks and resolve problems. The portal enables us to track precisely where and why things are stuck, and do accordingly," he added.
"Of the 433 stalled mega projects - each worth over Rs 1,000 crore - the PMG has helped clear about 150 projects entailing investments of Rs 5.5 lakh crore," he said.
