The accused has been identified as Rajpal Singh, hailing from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. With his arrest, police claimed to have solved two cases of cheating of Rs 1.20 crore.
"He started cheating people approaching him for plots and sold the vacant plots to them, which were already sold, by preparing forged documents to pay the landlords. Using this modus operandi, he duped several people to the tune of crores of rupees.
"In November last year, he disappeared from Baprola with his family after disposing of all his properties," ACP (West) V Renganathan said.
Acting on a tip-off, Rajpal was arrested yesterday from Achhonda area in Meerut, he said.
