Kendriya Vidyalaya has submitted a proposal for opening 200 new schools across the country but the government has not taken any decision so far.
KV Sanghathan commissioner Avinash Dikshit told PTI that a proposal for 200 new KVs is pending with the government but they are yet to receive any sanction.
The Centre had set an ambitious target of opening 500 new KVs in the current five year plan.
Official sources said budget constrain is the primary reason for not sanctioning new KVs. They admitted that it would be difficult to meet the target of opening 500 new KVs in 2012-17.
"The target was set for 60 months and 15 months have passed without seeing a single new KV. So, we are not in line with demand. I hope government will wake up and allot budgets as demand for KVs keeps coming from all quarters due to the quality education it provides at a very affordable rate," an official said.
Minister of State for Human Resource Development Jitin Prasada said KVs were able to absorb the children of the central government officials, for whom KVs are primarily meant, but civilian authorities and groups were also asking for more KVs to meet the demand of local population.
Human Resource Development Minister M Pallam Raju had said in Parliament during the Budget Session that 1087 KVs are functioning across the country and 138 KVs were sanctioned and opened in 11th five-year plan.
