The proposal will come in to force once the district magistrate passes it.
"There are several meat and liquor shops near Deeg Gate on Daresi Road and egg shops from Holi Gate to Vikas Bazaar. The view of animal flesh hanging outside these shops affects the religious sentiments of the devotees coming to this holy place. So we have decided to shift these shops to other places," said Manisha Aggarwal, chief of the Mathura Municipal Board.
"We have sought the help of the police and the district administration in this regard," she added.
The move follows a similar decision taken by the Vrindavan Municipal Corporation, declaring Vrindavan a dry area.
