The proposal to finance the CCTV project from the District Planning Development Committee (DPDC) funds of the Mumbai city district was mooted by District Guardian Minister Jayant Patil, who is also the state Rural Development Minister.
However, the project was scrapped because of the exorbitant cost of the MTNL bandwidth of Rs 2.35 crore, Patil told reporters here today. "Who will maintain the CCTVs and pay the fees?," he asked.
He said the Ganesh mandals agreed to put CCTVs on their premises as well as outside for better crowd control.
