Proposal to prepare database of criminals approved

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Principal Secretary (Cabinet Coordination and Secretariat) Ravikant said here.

The state government sanctioned Rs 74.20 lakh for preparation of the database and its maintenance under the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) project, he said.

The database will be connected by a network to all police stations, district and state police headquarters.

A proposal for construction of police line building and housing in Sheohar, Bagaha, Araria and Sheikhpura districts, 30 police stations buildings and six police outposts buildings was also approved, Ravikant said adding Rs 240.80 crore was sanctioned towards these proposals.

The state government also approved amendment in the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967 to set up an authority for examination of witnesses and evidences in a criminal case, he said.

The state government hiked the pension for the widows in the age group of 40-59 years under the Indira Gandhi Widow Pension Scheme under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) from Rs 200 to Rs 300 from the 2012-13 fiscal.

As many as 3.45 lakh women have been benefiting from the scheme, but their numbers may rise to 3.75 lakhs due to addition of new beneficiaries, Ravikant said.
