Proprietary rights of land, building for slum dwellers: Rawat

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today announced that his government had decided to give proprietary rights of land and building to the poor residing in slum areas of the state.
"The government is working toward renewal and cleanliness of the Valmiki townships and slums in the state," he said addressing members of Valmiki Samaj here.
Rawat said the government was working to provide occupants legal ownership under various schemes and in the next three years 20,000 more houses will be built in such townships.
He also laid the foundation stone of the Valmiki Park at Mallital here and visited Betalghat.

The Chief Minister announced Rs 39 crore-worth of schemes, including those to construct roads, bridges and pipelines and provide irrigation facilities.
"Uttarakhand is the first state to provide pension to farmers," he claimed.
The government has also made necessary amendments to the Lokpal Bill and has sent it for the Governor's approval, Rawat said.
