Protest against separate entrances for dalits and caste hindus
Press Trust of India Coimbatore Activists of Tamilar Viduthalai Iyakkam (Tamils Liberation Movement) were arrested today for attempting to stage picketing in front of the District collectorate seeking action against an eatery which has reportedly two entrances meant for Dalits and Caste Hindus.
Based on the reports appearing in a section of the press today, the activists, holding flags and placards, squatted in front of the collectorate and raised slogans against the owner and the system of two entrances, police said.
Police arrested all the 60 activists as they attempted to enter the Collectorate to lodge their protest.
The small eatery in Panampatti, some 25 kms from here has two entrances, one reportedly for Dalits and a main entrance for Caste Hindus.
However the people in the area, according to reports, claimed that there was no bar for dalits to enter from the main entrance.
