Scores of members of some social organisations and student outfits today staged a demonstration near the Bihar Bhawan here against incidents of violence during Ram Navami festival in the state.
The protesters were stopped by police from marching to the Bihar Bhawan on Kautilya Marg in Chanakyapuri area.
The protesters slammed the BJP and the ruling alliance headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Bihar for the communal violence and charged that they were trying to fan "communal tension" for political gains.
Former Rajya Sabha MP Ali Anwar alleged that communal feelings were being stoked by the ruling party ahead of the general election in 2019.
"But people understand the ploy and are ready to throw away them as they have failed to fulfil the promises made in 2014," Anwar said.
Bihar witnessed a spurt in communal clashes of late. On March 17, violence had broken out in Bhagalpur, during a religious procession.
