Villagers of nearly 10 villages staged a strong protest and did not allowed officials to hold a public hearing to establish a pharma factory in Pedda Masaipet billage of Medak district today.
The village was tense since morning after angry villagers protested against setting up the proposed pharma factory on 120 acres of land in the Pedda Masaipet village of Togutta mandal in Medak district for which district officials were supposed to conduct a public hearing meeting.
Villagers said that establishing the factory would pollute their air and water, making their villages another Patancheru, which happens to be Asia's most polluted area, due to which agriculture lands and cattle would be affected.
Protestors from nearly ten villages including Peda Masaipet, Giraipally, Sirisinagandla, Khamapally, Marpadga, Yellareddipeta and Kondapaka gathered in the morning at Pedda Masaipet village and demanded not to hold the public hearing meeting.
When District Joint Collector A Sharath announced the commencement of the public hearing, protestors slogans, threw chairs and surrounded officials, due to which they left the place without holding the meeting.
In some villages, posters were pasted warning against setting up of the pharma factory.
Meanwhile, District Joint Collector A Sharath said that a report would be send to higher authorities about the situation.
