A day after Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana government raised VAT on diesel, members of Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI-Communist) today protested the move and burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister here.
Party's district secretary Rajender Singh said that revision of VAT on diesel will lead to inflation.
Haryana government yesterday announced to raise VAT on diesel from 9.24 per cent to 12.07 per cent.
The party also deplored that the toll plaza at Gangaicha village on Rewari-Jhajjar road here had not been shut down whereas the government has closed toll plazas at six other places.
Alleging that it is a "discriminatory" measure on the part of the state government, he said that BJP activists, when the party was not in power in Haryana, had frequently staged dharnas for its removal.
Haryana government yesterday decided to close toll points at six locations in the state after Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways declared them as National Highways.
These are TP-1 on Gurgaon-Sohna road at Km 11 (near Badshahpur), TP-6 on Bahadurgarh-Jhajjar-Dadri-Loharu-Pilani road at RD 166 (near Rajasthan border) and TP-9 on Sardulgarh-Sirsa road (near Punjab border).
The other roads include TP-14 on UP border-Sonepat-Gohana Road (near UP border), TP-16 on Sohana -Nuh-Ferozpur Zhirkha-Alwar Road (near Rajasthan Border) and TP-19 on Narnaul-Singhana Road (near Rajasthan Border).
