About 2,500 people assembled at the Rajiv Gandhi Square in the city at 11.00 am and dispersed by around 3.00 pm after submitting a memorandum on Suresh Choudhary to the district collector.

"The entire gathering reached the collectorate in form of a rally from the sit-in spot in a peaceful manner and dispersed after submitting the memorandum to the collector," ADCP, Jyoti Swaroop Sharma, said.

Among other things, they were demanding raising the compensation to Choudhary's family from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, a martyr's status for him and renaming the village school after him.

While the protesters had called for closing of markets, those in the walled city remained unaffected.

Choudhary died on May 18 after being attacked by some people over an encroachment dispute in the village, 25 kms from Jodhpur. The murder had led to tension in Keru, with reports of violence.

A murder case has been registered and 8 accused already arrested, Sharma said.

Most of the protesters' demands are being considered and compensation of Rs 5 lakh along with a government job to a kin of Choudhary has already been met, she added.
