Members of Muslim Dharmik Committee Punjab, led by its state president Maulana Ubais-ur-Rehman, carried out a march from Jama Masjid to Tehsil complex last night, a police official said today.
They also presented a memorandum to duty magistrate Swapan Kaur for forwarding it to President Ram Nath Kovind.
"We have sought the intervention of President Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the atrocities on Rohingya Muslims," said Rehman.
They also demanded that the Rohingyas seeking asylum in India should be allowed to settle here.
Terming the Rohingya refugees as "illegal" immigrants, the government on September 18 told the Supreme Court that some of them were part of a "sinister" design of Pakistan's ISI and terror groups such as the ISIS, whose presence in the country will pose a "serious" national security threat.
