Followers of Saibaba today burnt an effigy of Dwaraka Peeth Shankaracharya Swaroopananda Saraswati for his alleged remarks against the 20th century saint.
A large number of followers of Saibaba also staged a demonstration at Lahurabir here. They burnt the effigy of the seer and demanded that the remarks be immediately withdrawn by him.
Meanwhile, over a dozen seers, who are ardent supporters of Swaroopananda Saraswati, today lodged their silent protest against the FIR registered against the Shankaracharya at Shirdi in Maharashtra.
"Our demand is that the FIR lodged against Swaroopananda Saraswatiji allegedly for 'hurting religious sentiments' should immediately be withdrawn," said Swami Ishwaranand, Secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Dandi Mahasabha.
He added that the "statements of Swami Swaroopananda were wrongly interpreted".
