Family members and relatives of a married woman, who allegedly killed herself by hanging last month, today took out a protest march here seeking arrest of her husband and in-laws, booked for abetting the suicide.
Irate family members of the deceased, Garima Yadav, and hundreds of residents of her native Chakrapur village of Gurgaon district took out the rally protesting against lackadaisical attitude of the district police, and demanded immediate arrest of the accused -- her husband Saurabh Rao, father-in-law Sunil Rao and mother-in-law Urmilla Yadav.
The accused are relatives of Haryana Power Minister Ajay Singh Yadav.
On a complaint filed by Garima's father Suresh, the Model Town police had over a week ago registered a case of dowry death against Garima's husband and in-laws, all residents of Sector 3 here.
The protesters, led by Congress MLA and Haryana Chief Parliamentary Secretary Anita Yadav, held a demonstration in front of the district secretariat and submitted a memorandum to Superintendent of Police Pankaj Nain, who assured them that the accused would be arrested soon.
MLA Yadav told reporters that Garima committed suicide on the night of March 23 at her in-laws' house, but the police were yet to arrest the accused. She said the inordinate delay in arresting the accused was something unjustifiable.
When contacted, the minister, who is six-time Congress MLA from Rewari, said his name was being unnecessarily dragged to the case on political grounds.
He said if the family members of the deceased wanted a CBI probe into the matter, they (the accused family) were prepared to extend full cooperation. He refuted allegations that he was putting any kind of pressure on the police.
