Scores of angry protesters today blocked the Grand Trunk Road and clashed with police at Model Town area in north Delhi over alleged police inaction in the murder case of a 40-year-old woman.
According to police, the demonstrators pelted stones on policemen leaving some of them injured while two police vehicles were damaged.
"The demonstrators started gathering at GT Road in Model Town area in North Delhi at around 10 AM, they soon blocked the road. When policemen tried to intervene and clear the road, the mob turned violent and started pelting stones," a police official said.
Some police personnel injured in the incident were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Situation is now under control, he said.
The demonstrators alleged that police has been lax in investigating the murder of Kamlesh Devi, a maid, whose body was found on Sunday morning in Ramlila Park. No arrest has been made so far.
Kamlesh Devi's body was found in the morning by a passerby who informed the police. There were wounds on her head and neck.
