Scores of protesters, comprising locals and auto-rickshaw union members, today blocked the road near Lodhi Colony police station in south Delhi, alleging police inaction in a hit-and-run incident in which a 30-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was killed.
The protest caused traffic congestion in and around Lodhi Road in the peak evening hours.
The accident happened on the wee hours of Thursday when the auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Mohender Sah, a resident of Trilokpuri, was heading back home and a car hit Sah's vehicle near an intersection in Lodhi Road, police said.
The driver sped away leaving Sah there. Eye witnesses have told police that the car was being driven by a woman. Sah was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday, police said.
Today, the protesters, largely comprising members of an auto-rickshaw union, put Sah's body on the road outside Lodhi Colony Police Station and blocked a carriageway, alleging inaction on part of police in dealing with the case.
"Police hasn't done anything so far. We demand strict action against the culprit. If they (police) do not arrest the culprit till tomorrow, we will protest outside the police headquarters," Delhi Auto-rickshaw Sangh general secretary Rajendra Soni said.

The protest caused traffic congestion in Jor Bagh Road, Fourth Avenue Road, Lodhi Road and Max Mueller Marg, a traffic official said.
When the situation went out of control, police teams from Lodhi Colony called for reinforcement and more personnel were rushed from police stations in Defense Colony and Kotla Mubarakpur.
The situation was brought under control only when senior officials intervened, following which the protesters left with Sah's body.
