Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today said although his government is considering to hold several big events in the state, it is not very keen to host them fearing protests by NGOs.
"We are thinking of holding events like maritime summit in our state. People are willing to come and participate in such events in Goa. But some of the NGOs will start objecting to it," Parsekar told reporters on his return her from Maritime India Summit 2016 in Mumbai.
"This is not the right time to hold such events. This is an election year, so we should not invite new problems during this time," he added.
Due to protests, good initiatives are getting spoilt, he said adding, "We better take the mandate first and hold such events."
The BJP-led government had recently faced opposition for holding Defence Expo in South Goa.
NGOs, including local Church had objected to the initiative which was finally held between March 28-31 in South Goa.
