Officials said protests were also launched by locals who appealed to the militants to desist from such activity as it may affect them.
Two petrol pumps located in Imphal West district, which had been forced by militants to close down since July 5, had been set afire by unidentified militants late last night.
The attackers stole into the premises when the guards were asleep and set it on fire. The blaze was later doused by fire brigade personnel, the officials said.
The pump owners said a militant faction of Kangleipak Communist Party had demanded Rs 10 lakh from each pump.
