Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today asked officials to prepare plans for providing safe drinking water through pipes to every household in the city.
Rao, who held a review with officials on drinking water supply in Hyderabad, said adequate drinking water should be supplied to industrial and commercial establishments as well, a release from his office said.
Noting that 42.58 TMC of water is required annually to cater to the 1.42 crore population of Hyderabad and its suburbs, he asked the officials to prepare plans accordingly.
He said 32 TMC of water would be available from the Manjeera river and the water bodies on the capital city's outskirts.
The deficit should be filled by diverting more water from Krishna and Godavari rivers, he said. Special reservoirs should be built for the purpose.
Rao asked the officials to determine how many more connections for water supply taps are required to be given, in addition to the existing nine lakh connections, the release said.
