Twelve-time world billiards and snooker champion Pankaj Advani and other top national players would compete in the 11th Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) Inter-Unit tournament, beginning tomorrow.
Advani is in red hot form these days but he is not taking it lightly.
"It is a short format and unpredictable. Anything can happen. Obviously we have to put our best foot forward and try and win for the companies we are representing," he said.
The tournament, which is organised by GAIL India Limited, will be held at the Karnataka State Billiard Association (KSBA) and finals will be played on February 14.
Advani said the "players are fortunate to have received financial backing from the companies, which allow them to concentrate on their sport."
"Anyone who is knocking at the national level looks forward to get a job in a company. It is not easy to qualify for the job for which you have to be consistently getting accolades at domestic and international level," he added.
Teams participating in the event are - GAIL (India) Ltd, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC), Oil India Ltd. (OIL), Bharat Petroleum Ltd. (BPCL) and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL).
Apart from Advani, who is part of ONGC team, other players participating are Rupesh Shah (ONGC), Aditya Mehta (IOCL), Devender Joshi (BPCL), Himanshu Jain (GAIL), Arif Akhtar (IOCL), A Kamalapuri (OIL), Dhruv Sitavala, Brijesh Damani, Alok Kumar and many other reputed professionals.
