PTI photojournalist gets injured during IFA Shield final

PTI photojournalist Swapan Mahapatra got injured when a firecracker burst on him during the 118th IFA Shield final between Mohammedan Sporting and Sheikh Jamal Dhamnodi at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan here today.
According to a fellow photojournalist who spoke to the doctors, a splinter has penetrated into his lungs and liver and the photojournalist has been put under observation.
"The doctors are trying to remove the splinter without damaging any organ. If it does not come out then surgery will have to be done," the fellow photojournalist said.
Down 0-1 after Sony Norde's freekick goal in the 28th minute, home favourite Mohammedan Sporting were under pressure before Mehrajuddin Wadoo equalised in the first-half injury time.
The equaliser sparked jubilation from about 40,000-odd fans who celebrated by lighting firecrackers in the stands as one of them hit the on-duty PTI photojournalist who was busy clicking photos on the ground.
Bleeding profusely after being hit near rib cage, he was rushed to the nearby AMRI Hospital.
