As pledged at the launch of one of its books last year, city-based publishing house Palimpsest is ready with a donation amount for 2015 Chennai flood victims from the sale proceeds of that novel.
At the launch of Neeru Iyer's "Of Bridges Among Us" here on December 5 last year, Palimpsest had announced that Rs 20 from the sale of every copy of the book would go to the Chennai flood relief fund.
Interestingly, the author could not make it to the launch event as she was left stranded in the floods Chennai.
"Neeru, who lives in the US, was in Chennai with her parents at that time, about to leave for Delhi for her big moment. But she could not make it. She called me the evening before the launch saying she was marooned as the city under water and all flights cancelled. She urged me to go ahead with the programme," recalls CEO Bhaskar Roy.
The amount for the relief fund is based on the sales which are countable -- at the launch, copies of the book sold by online sellers like Amazon, Flipkart and also Palimpsest's site. It has been worked out on the basis of preliminary sales reports.
The book is a collection of short stories mostly about life in Chennai. All of the stories explore some kind of an unconventional relationship.
