An NGO working in the area of human rights today opposed Rajasthan government's decision to give fresh posting to IAS officer Krishna Kunal, suspended erlier in connection with the 2011 Gopalgarh firing incident, alleging the officer can influence ongoing probe in the case.
People's Union for Civil Liberties, in a letter sent to the Chief Secretary, has alleged the officer's new position will put him in a situation of influencing the investigation.
Kunal was suspended for his alleged failure to deal with the incident in the capacity of Bharatpur DM.
Ten persons of the Meo Muslim community were killed in communal violence and police firing in Gopalgarh town of Bharatpur in September 2011.
Kunal's suspension was revoked in May last year after the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) stayed the order and since then, he was awaiting a posting.
In an administrative reshuffle yesterday, Kunal was made Commissioner (land settlement).
The PUCL added it will also write to the National Minorities Commission to seek its intervention into the matter.
