Chief Minister N Rangasamy was forced to cut short his campaign at a coastal hamlet today after a group of fishermen virtually gheraoed him protesting non-availability of various benefits meant for the community.
Rangasamy, accompanied by ruling AINRC functionaries and workers, visited Vambakeerapalayam and started canvassing for votes for party nominee R Radhakrishnan for the April 24 Lok Sabha polls.
However, within minutes of his arrival, a group of fishermen from the village surrounded him, bringing to his notice the delay in availability of monthly assistance to the aged fishermen, cash relief to the fishermen hit by natural calamities, free rice and other benefits.
After unsuccessfully trying to pacify the agitators, the Chief Minister left the village in a huff.
