Abdul Hameed Sheikh, the principal of the college, was removed from his post and his charge was handed over to a senior faculty member, Education Department officials said.
The government also ordered an inquiry into last Saturday's violence, involving stone-pelting by the students on the security forces which had entered the college premises, the officials said.
As a result, the higher educational institutions in Kashmir have been shut by the government for the last three days and will remain closed tomorrow also.
The inquiry will be conducted by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, the officials said.
