Pun issues new notification on use of red beacons on vehicles

The notification was issued following instructions by Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who had asked for the list to be pruned and vehicles of those using red/blue beacons without authorisation to be impounded.

According to the notification, those who have been authorised to use red beacons include Governor of Punjab, Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, Minister of State, Deputy Ministers, Chief Parliamentary Secretaries, Parliamentary Secretaries, Chief Justice and Judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Member Parliament from Punjab (one vehicle only), Speaker, Deputy Speaker and MLAs (one vehicle for MLAs).

Among others who have been authorised to use red beacons include the Chief Secretary, Financial Commissioners, Principal Secretaries, Advocate General of Punjab, Director General of Police, ADGPs, IGs, Commissioners of Police, DIGs and SSPs, Vice Chancellor of all universities in Punjab other than private universities, President SGPC, Jathedars of Five Holy Takhts and Head Granthi of Sri Harimandir Sahib.

In case vehicles with red light atop is not carrying the dignitary then such beacon should not be used and covered with black cover, the notification said.

The stickers of red light would be issued by IG Traffic.

All eligible dignitaries have been requested to deposit their old stickers and get the new stickers issued.

Instructions have also been issued to impound the vehicles that were found using red beacon without any authorisation.
