Justice Krishna Murari was today appointed as the chief justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
A judge of the Allahabad High Court, his name was recommended for elevation by the Supreme Court collegium last month.
Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal was recently appointed as the acting chief justice of the Punjab and Hayana High Court following the retirement of Justice Shiavax Jal Vazifdar who was heading the court.
Meanwhile, Justice Hrishikesh Roy, a judge of the Gauhati High Court has been transferred to the Kerala High Court. Since, he is now the senior-most judge in Kerala High Court, he has been asked to assume the charge of the acting chief justice following the retirement of Justice Antony Dominic.
The Allahabad High Court at present is facing a shortage of 63 judges. While its approved strength is 160, it has 97 judges.
