The Punjab unit of the BJP today urged Governor V P Singh Badnore to constitute a regulatory board to review fee hikes by schools.
All private schools in the state should be asked to charge fees according to the previous academic session till the issue is resolved, demanded the delegation comprising BJP state vice-presidents- Harjit Singh Grewal and Iqbal singh Lalpura which met the Governor today.
It urged the Governor to direct the Punjab Government to constitute a Regulatory Body of the five Divisional Commissioners for regulating fees as per the provisions of the Punjab Regulation of Fee of Unaided Educational Institutions Act and ask them to review fee hike within 3 months.
The delegation demanded that till then the schools should be asked to charge fees according to the last academic session, Grewal said.
After the decision is made the schools can realize the balance amount from parents, the delegation said.
"We have apprised the Governor of ongoing protests in the state. The parents are up against the business-minded approach of private school managements. We told the Governor that if the issue is not tackled soon, it will lead to a serious unrest in Punjab. Even a law and order problem could emerge," a memberf of the delegation said.
