State BJP unit today submitted a memorandum to Union Minister Arun Jaitley drawing his attention to the problems faced by the local people.
State BJP vice president Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina presented the memorandum to Jaitley demanding that compensation be paid to farmers whose cultivable land is in the area of security fence on the international border with Pakistan.
Singh, however, said compensation was given during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee regime but the same was discontinued by the previous UPA government.
"The fence should be relocated at border so that the hundreds of acres of agriculture land in Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts, is saved for farming," it said.
Demanding a special package for Amritsar, Singh said special attention must be accorded to the city's infrastructure as more than one lakh pilgrims and tourists on an average visit it daily.
The city requires special package for conservation of its heritage and beautification of surroundings of Golden Temple and Durgiana Mandir, he said.
He also said more flights to international destinations where Punjabi NRIs reside should be started from Sri Guru Ram Das International Airport.
Commercial flights from here will up-lift trade and business to Middle East and European countries, he said.
