The Punjab unit of BSP today claimed that the next general elections are likely to held before 2014 and exhorted the party workers to start preparations for the same.
Addressing a state-level function on the occasion of 122th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, BSP general secretary Narendra Kashyap said," the Lok Sabha polls are likely to held before the scheduled time(2014)".
"Since the countrymen were disillusioned both with Congress-led UPA and BJP-led NDA, they were looking up to BSP as the third alternative," Kashyap, who is also the party in-charge of Punjab, said.
The BSP leader also asked the party workers to gear up for the upcoming general polls.
Later, while commenting upon the Supreme Court's rejection of death row convict Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar's plea for saving him from the gallows, Kashyap told reporters here that the law was taking its course in the matter.
"We are a law-abiding party wedded to Ambedkar's ideology. What law has done regarding Bhullar was right," he remarked.
The Supreme Court had on April 12 dismissed Khalistan Liberation Force terrorist's plea for commutation of his death sentence to life imprisonment on ground of delay in deciding his mercy petition.
