Congress Legislative Party leader Sunil Kumar Jakhar, along with some party legislators, today met Punjab director general of police (DGP) Suresh Arora and apprised him about the "false cases" registered against his party men.
After the meeting, Jakhar told reporters that Akali Dal activists thrashed polling agents of Congress at some places on the polling day.
"Murderous attacks were made on Congress workers including polling agents, but police rather than taking action against Akali activists booked Congress supporters under false cases," he said, adding that "no Akali activist or worker has been booked by the police yet".
Although the DGP refrained from making any comment on the meeting, Jakhar claimed that the police chief had assured them of action.
Meanwhile, Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa shot off a letter to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, alleging that SAD had failed to abide by democratic ethos and unleashed politics of vendetta against Congress workers.
"This attitude of your party leaders is highly condemnable and so is the collusion of the law and order machinery with the culprits... However, the Congress workers cannot be terrorised through these deplorable actions," he wrote. Bajwa also reiterated his party's demand of a CBI probe into the drug racket in the state.
